Same Open Garden, orchids this time.

I wish I could grow orchids but I seem to have brown thumbs with them.

I'm a Queenslander by birth and after nearly 20 years in the Northern Territory I've returned to my home state. I've been researching my Queensland ancestors for nearly 30 years and like most Aussies I'm a typical "mongrel" with English, Irish, Scottish and German ancestry.

They are stunning. I have one orchid that I have had for 43 years…I brought it from our first home after marriage… another, about 30 years, from my family home, but Dad gave it to me after Mum died. They thrive on banana peels and neglect… the challenge will be to see if I can keep the one my daughter gave me this year alive… watch this space…
Good luck with the new one Chris. I’m impressed by the others…I suspect there’s a bit more than that to it otherwise if neglect was involved mine would be thriving! Next time they’re flowering I think you should show us all a pic.
I don’t have an orchid but a different bulb that I cannot name right now. It has bloomed once in the 5 years since I got it. sometimes it seems to be doing well and then the leaves collapse and die. I rarely water it but maybe that is even to much. It’s alive but not thriving.
Don’t you hate it when that happens! You know something’s wrong but what….I think we should all be using Crissouli as our gardening mentor 😉
