The other day there were two big C-17 planes in the military section of Darwin airport. I guess it’s strange compared to other places where these installations are both separate and secure. Sure I couldn’t get in there, but there’s no hassle taking photos. Military aircraft are part and parcel of life in Darwin: helicopters, fighter jets, transport and freight planes. Occasionally we see the Russian Antinov 22 …a really big aircraft usually used for hauling mining equipment around. (thanks Mr Cassmob)

We saw this one starting to taxi, with its large engines in profile, but by the time we stopped and got out it was up, up and away so the photo doesn’t convey the sheer size of it.
