Cycad umbrellas

Moving into the Dry Season, the bush fires are already kicking in. Unless the fire is truly fierce, the Australian bush will regenerate after a fire. Nature’s way of coping with the extremes of our climate.

Driving to Batchelor last week there were tracts of bush where the cycads were dressed in new growth, like protective umbrellas.Somehow they also make me think of ballerinas in upside-down tutus as their branches sway in the breeze. I just love the lime-y vividness of their leaves.
