Not far from Mamukala we spotted this little billabong as we crossed a culvert. I don’t even know about buttercups but this is what they made me think of.

An impressionist photograph or just out of focus? Even with the long lens these were hard to capture and I sure wasn’t going too close to the water…never know what crocs might lurk there.

I'm a Queenslander by birth and after nearly 20 years in the Northern Territory I've returned to my home state. I've been researching my Queensland ancestors for nearly 30 years and like most Aussies I'm a typical "mongrel" with English, Irish, Scottish and German ancestry.

Glad you didn’t go in the water… 🙂
They have put up heaps of croc-warning signs since we were out there last a couple of years ago (how slack we are!). A heron flew up out of the bushes as I got closer -hard to say which of us got the bigger fright 😉
We had a lovely day, even if Anbangbang Billabong, which we really wanted to visit, was closed. Next time!
It was a nice albeit long drive but a shame about Anbangbang…still it’s an incentive to go out another time before too long.
