Croc stories are an almost-daily feature of the Top End’s “esteemed” newspaper, the NT News, but few focus on the role of salties (saltwater crocodiles) in high class handbags and shoes. Hitting the news this week are stories about the role of science in selecting which baby crocs have the optimal DNA to produce quality skins for fashion goods…this might be one situation where being the best isn’t for the best.
Darwin company di Croco, adjacent to the even more expensive Paspaley Pearl showroom, produces high-end, and high-price, designer products for the fashion conscious. So if you prefer croc skins to faux leather, di Croco is the place to go in Darwin. Personally I’m inclined to think it’s all a crock.
